Happy New Year and welcome to 2011! It's time I dusted off the old Blog and updated with something new to ring in the year. This post will take a look back at 2010 and the movies I enjoyed the most. Here's a quick run trhough of the films I've seen since August.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs
This one took me by surprise! I was reluctant to see it at first but after word of mouth and nothing but positive praise from the internet, I caved in and checked it out. "Cloudy" is easily one the best animated features this year and definitely one of the funniest! It's quirky, goofy, wonderfully absurd, and most importantly it's cartoony. The way the characters walk and move as well as the poses the animators created are all reminiscent of the way cartoons used to be. 4 and half out of 5 Slinus Heads!

Zombieland
I can't really think of anything wrong with Zombieland. It was clever, funny, full of gore - everything one would want from a zombie comedy! 4 out of 5 Slinus Heads

9 isn't the worst animated feature I've ever seen and it certainly isn't the Best. It was short, a little bit slow, and not very memorable. However it was interesting, well animated, and had a pleasant dark tone aimed towards adults and not dumbed down for children. Pretty average really. 2 and half out of 5 Slinus Heads

Inglorious Basterds
Not really my type of movie but I've never been a big Tarantino fan, however it certainly offers everything a Tarantino fan would need in one of his films. 3 out of 5 Slinus Heads

G.I. Joe
I didn't like G.I. Joe as a kid and I don't like G.I. Joe now. Some people hate this movie with a passion but I just plan to move on and put it out of mind. Half of 1 Slinus Head out of 5

Drag me to Hell
It starts out sort of serious but quickly turns into Sam Raimi silly style horror. Good cheesey fun! 3 out of 5 Slinus Heads

The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard
The previews made this movie look really funny when in fact it's only mildy funny. Their trying too hard to recreate "Talladaga Nights" style films and cranking out awkward coemdies. 1 and half Slinus Heads

Year One
A few good laughs but certainly nothing special. Maybe check it out if it's on Free TV someday. 1 and half Slinus Heads

Transformers 2

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen . . . What a silly name for a sequel. It should be called "Transformers: Micheal Bay Wants More Money". This film does several things;
1. Aggressively sells toys to children.
2. Subliminally promotes the military so children will enlist at 18.
3. Proves Micheal Bay has an explosion fetish.
4. Argues that plot in unimportant.
5. Proves Americans didn't learn their lesson from Transformers 1 and are willing to give hard earned cash for over 2 hours or "Robo-Poop!"

This movie was awful! It felt like it was directed by a hyperactive 4 year old with A.D.D. Bright colors, loud explosions, and endless CGI robots that pretty much all look the same are thrown at you in rapid concession leaving your eyeballs feeling raped and your mind feeling hazy.

Micheal Bay's sense of humor is bewildering as any scene that is suppose to be comedic comes out awkward, stupid, or just plain worthless. Whoever decided that a Robot with testicles would be funny must of also approved Robo-urination as comedy gold for the first Transformers abomination!

Arrrg! And why do we need soooooo many robot characters in one movie? They're pretty much all the same, at least in the movies they are, because each individual gets so little screen time that their personalities become bland and meaningless. The only two I can tell apart are Optimus and Bummblebee, mostly because their the only ones I can remember from the first movie. So Mr. Bay decides to cram like 5o robots in one movie, Why? Oh yeah, so they make a toy of each one and sell it to your children and make more money which will encourage them to make Transformers 3.

By the way, the new "Twin Robot" Characters are so annoying that I cringed every time they appeared on the screen. These two robo-rejects are so negatively stereotyped, I can't believe they didn't transform into Uncle Tom's Cabin!

So, was this movie a complete waste of film? Well, not entirely. As much as I hated it, I still found a moment of interest or even a chuckle. Some of the fight scenes were kind of cool, and the effects were impressive at times, but it wasn't enough to label this film as "watchable". (But if you liked the first one, then I'm sure you'll love this one.)

Is there "more than meets the eye" in this film? Sadly no, just more money in Micheal Bay's Pocket.

I give it One Slinus Head.

Don't own any Futurama on DVD? Not to worry, now you can own this super snazzy DVD box set done in a "Head in the Jar" style. This set collects all 4 T.V. seasons and the 4 DVD Movies. NEW YORK, June 10, 2009 -- 20th Century Fox Television, the animation powerhouse that brought "Family Guy" back from the dead five years ago, has done it again: Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's brilliantly subversive animated sci-fi comedy "Futurama" will return to production on 26 new half-hour episodes more than six years after the series aired its last original episode. The move comes on the heels of the series' blockbuster performance on DVD and on COMEDY CENTRAL; the announcement was made today by Twentieth Century Fox Television Chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden, and David Bernath, senior vice president, programming for COMEDY CENTRAL.

"Futurama" was a staple of Fox's Sunday night animation block from 1999 to 2003 before ceasing production on original episodes. In June 2006, COMEDY CENTRAL acquired the rights to the existing 72 episodes of the series, which the channel began airing in January 2008, and four recently-produced extended length "Futurama" adventures: "Bender's Big Score," "The Beast with a Billion Backs," "Bender's Game" and "Into the Wild Green Yonder," which enjoyed enormous success both on COMEDY CENTRAL and in DVD release. This new deal marks the show's return to episodic series production on original episodes. "Futurama" becomes only the second series in the history of the medium to go back into production based on the strength of its DVD sales and repeat airings on cable.

The new episodes will be available in mid 2010 to be shown on COMEDY CENTRAL. Twentieth Century Fox Television retains the option to license the original runs of the new episodes to a broadcast network.

"We are excited to continue our relationship with Matt, David and 20th Century Fox TV and to be able to offer COMEDY CENTRAL viewers the first opportunity to see new episodes of 'Futurama,'" said Bernath. A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox Television confirms that the cable net has ordered 26 new episodes of Matt Groening and David X. Cohen's late, great animated series to air beginning in 2010. The studio cites Futurama's "blockbuster" performance on DVD and in reruns on Comedy Central as the reason for its rebirth.

Variety
As part of the deal, 20th still has an option to license the new episodes' original runs to a broadcast network (such as Fox). If the show does go to broadcast, Comedy Central's license fee will be reduced.

"It's a deal we're all happy with," said Comedy Central programming senior VP David Bernath. "It's a bigger win for us promotionally if we wind up going first... but if we wind up in second position, then the economics work out for us as well."

I'm gonna leave this short: If you haven't seen the new Star Trek yet then you need to do so. Even if you've never seen any other form of Star Trek (like me) this is still an excellent movie. Fun characters, good story, and great action make for one sweet Summer Flick.

X-men Orgins: Wolverine

If you haven't seen X-men Orgins: Wolverine ... Don't Bother. If you have, than I'm sorry. This flaming pile of mediocrity is sandwiched between loud explosions and way too many characters in one movie.

At times the special effects were lame and cartoony, the slow-mo "Matrix" time became annoying, and Sabertooth's leaping like a freak to get from point A to point B was laughably ridiculous! This pitiful excuse for a film can never make up it's mind if it wants to be dark and serious or a happy action Kid's flick.

If you're an X-men fan do yourself a Favor and show your fan support by reading the comics, don't give your hard earned money to FOX. If you do, they might make more of this garbage ... What's that? A sequel is already being planned?! Can it get any worse? What!!!! Ryan Reynolds is in talks for a Deadpool spin-off!?!? ARRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

And by the way Wolverine gets shot in the Memories ... The MEMORIES!!! Yeah, it's as stupid as it sounds.

Oh well at least we had 3 good ... I mean 2 ... wait, ONE good X-men movie ... I think. Well at least we had one sort-of-Okay X-men movie. Actually lets pretend this never happened and watch Iron Man instead.

Half a Slinus Head is all I'm gonna give this turd fest of a movie.

M. vs A. Review

Monsters Vs. Aliens

Let me begin by saying "It's hard to hate this movie, but they made it so easy not to like it". Yeah, I know it makes little to no sense but I kind of like the way it sounds. Monsters vs. Aliens is the first Dreamworks Animated movie I've seen since "Flushed Away" and I only agreed to see that movie due to Ardmin Animation's involvement with the film. Why am I so down on Dreamworks Animation you may be asking yourself? One Word .... One Unholy, Fowl, disgusting, gut retching, fecal matter encrusted word. . . "Shrek". The one movie that drove me to become a CGI hating Animation Snob. Not to say that all CGI Animation is not up to my unreasonably high standards, just take a Gander at such Pixar films like "Wall-e" or "the Incredibles". These films have eye explodingly beautiful visuals, incredible stories, and most importantly they don't treat their audiences like retards. Even though Pixar's main demographic is children, they refrain from downplaying their films with things like bodily humor or constant pop cultural references. So anyway .... Ummmm, I'll stop ranting.

Before I go on let me explain what I liked about this film. First off the concept is wonderful! B-movie Horror monsters modeled from the films of the 1950's are put together in a superhero style team and are expected to battle an alien invasion. The monsters include . . .

Dr. Cockroach based off "The Fly"
B.O.B., based off "The Blob"
The missing Link losely based off "The Creature from the Black Lagoon"
Susan a.k.a. Ginormica based off "Attack of the 50ft. Woman"
Insectosaurus bassed off any giant monster movie but with specific similarities to "Mothra".

I only wish the movie had been set in the 1950's as well.

However the greatest part of this movie (for me) is Susan's Character, a young woman who has a normal life one minute, grows 50 ft., and is suddenly considered a monster. I love how the film plays with the sense of scale. For example when Susan meet's the other monsters, we (the audience) also meet them from her point of view making them appear tiny, however they are all human sized. Throughout the rest of the film various sets and situations make you visually forget that Susan is indeed a giantess, whether she's using a truck stop as a bench or cars for roller skates, suddenly she's being crushed by the enormous hand of a giant robot and all of sudden she seems normal sized. Again this probably doesn’t impress anyone but me, but do I love it!

And then the best part of the entire movie is Susan's Growth Scene, if you haven't seen it yet go ahead it's right here! Watch it!

Snootch! That's Awesome! The psychological thoughts that must be running through her head as her entire world is taken away form her and Good Gravy!!! That is one ridiculously stretchy Wedding Dress! What is this, a kid's movie!? Oh yeah, right. Sorry. If you haven't figured it out by now, yes I am a freak, and even though I would of preferred Susan to lose a height instead of gain it, I have to admit that this is easily one of the best female transformation sequences to come around in a very long time. Does anyone else find it sexy when she exclaims "help me"? No. Just me. O.K., I'll drop it.

So why do I dislike this film even though it has so much to offer?
Well for starters the story feels as if it were rewritten 20 times each time adding more and more useless jokes and gags. Also someone felt the need to cram dozens of pop cultural references that fit poorly, aren't funny, and make the story screech to a screaming halt while the audience feels awkward and extremely uncomfortably. For example when the President attempts to communicate to the aliens with the keyboard notes from "Close encounters of the Third Kind" you have a potentially funny moment, however any humor is sucked dry and shriveled dead as the gag extends into an awkward dance scene accompanied by the irritating "Beverly Hills Cop" theme. Why? It's almost like the film is departing away from the story in an attempt to get a cheap laugh out of children. Oh wait, it's that thing that I just said. I would forgive the film if it only happened once but No!! they keep throwing more of the same at you. Another irritating scene involves Dr. Cockroach whom for the last 50 years has been locked away in "monster jail", has never been to an arcade, and only knows mad scientist things. Suddenly we are expected to believe that he is an expert at "Dance Dance Revolution" and not only that but this DDR machine controls and alien space craft!!! And said scene lasts ridiculously long!!! Agrnym!!!!!!!!! Oh sorry, I'm ranting again.

Let me wrap this up ...
Some of the dialogue seems forced and un-natural.
The celebrity voices are not playing characters, just theme selves. (i.e. Seth Rogan as Seth Rogan)
And over Advertising!!! The kids would shout out dialogue before it was said on screen due to the constant on TV advertising. Worse yet they used some of their funnier stuff in the ad campaigns so when you see it on the screen it seems weak and over used. Blah!

So in the end Dreamworks takes a wonderful idea, presents it nicely, and rubs their stink all over it!! I want to love it, I should of loved it, only sort a liked it.

If you haven't seen the new movie "Coraline" yet, you should! "Coraline" is wonderfully imaginative and beautifies the art of stop motion animation. The film is in 3-D and unlike other 3-D films, "Coraline" doesn't cheapen the effect by "throwing" things at you or fall victim to other overly used 3-D cliches. Being the first Stop motion film made for 3-D makes "Coraline" (in my opinon) appear as one long View-Master" image, and in case anyone has forgotten what view-masters are here are some pictures.

Above are 2 scenes from old "View Masters" that take classic 2-D animated characters and make them into 3 dimensional scenes. To me this effect gives "Coraline" a wonderful nostalgic feel. Anyway, go see it already!

Christmas Party 2008

Holiday Greetings to all and I hope everyone is enjoying their December! Sarah and I have decided to carry on Brett’s annual tradition and throw a Christmas party this year. However don’t expect Chocolate and Cheese, this party is a Pot Luck. That means everyone who comes is responsible for bringing a food item. Food we are in need of includes;

Drinks
Chips
Desserts
Sides/Breads
Main Dish

These Items are First Respond – First Pick! So once someone has claimed an item, it’s off limits, however some items are up for multiple claims.

Also we will be playing the “Worst Christmas Gift Ever!” game. If you want to play you need to pick out what you consider to be the Worst Gift Ever. This can be something laying around the house, something you found at goodwill, or junk from the dollar store, it can be anything as long as you don’t spend more than $2 (unless you really want to). Once you have your “Worst Gift Ever”, wrap it so no one knows what it is and DO NOT put your name on it.

The Party is the Saturday after Christmas (Dec. 27^th) at 5:30p.m. at Donovan and Sarah’s house. Please contact Donovan or Sarah as soon as possible with the Food Item You Want To Bring! What the annual Halloween party does for Halloween, this party will do for Christmas!

Halloween Party 2008

It's that time of year again! The Halloween Party is in it's 6th year and is bigger and better than ever. This year the party returns to Halloween Night (Friday Oct. 31st) at 5 p.m. However the party is at a new location, no longer in my parent's basement, the party is at Donovan & Sarah's house on Cedarbrook Rd. (If you need directions please contact me). Costumes, contests, prizes, food, fun, and the return of the "Who's gonna die?" Movie game and the spectacular Mystery Box! Everyone is welcome and we hope you join us in celebrating Halloween 2008!

House Updates

Here's the latest on our house...

The hideously Orange bathroom is now a nice dark blue!

The green family room now has all 3 coats of red plus brand new carpet!!

The living room also has new carpet and has been painted grey.

The Hallway has also been painted green (awesome work Kristen)!

I'd also like to thank everyone who came out and helped paint or move over the weekend, we couldn't of done it without you!!!

Still to be done; Last layer of paint in kitchen, finish master bath remodel, and move stuff into the house!

Home Sweet Home

If you haven't heard (or weren't at the Batman party), Sarah and I bought a house nestled in the heart of Goshen! Since July 10th, we have been remodeling to reach "move-in" condition. Here are some photos to show you our efforts.

The first task was to tear out the entire master bathroom; here are it's contents sitting in the bedroom.

Here is our sweet Kitchen. Not much will change here, we both love the floor. New handles on the cabinet doors made a major improvement.
This is the hideous orange Hall bathroom, soon to be dark blue.

The previous owner tore down the wall between the kitchen and living room, so I put it back up as a half wall.

Here is the half wall now with drywall. The smaller opening is going to be an "in-the-wall Fish Tank"

The Electrician installed ceiling light fixtures in all the bedrooms, much brighter!

I found out something odd about our tree in the front yard . . .
It's one of those new "Electric Trees"! I don't know why, but this electric cord is growing out of our tree.

Here's the family room, which was left in lime green.

Now here's our family room after the first coat of dark red.

Sarah's things are slowly making their way into the house, soon to be followed by all my junk.

I’m planning a lot of group activities and get-togethers this summer but a few things need to be brought to your attentions immediately! This July is looking pretty busy, here’s what’s up …

Friday July 4th

“Weird Al” Yankovic is coming HERE! … Yes to LOUISVILLE on July 4th. The “Straight Outta Lynwood Concert Tour” will be here in Louisville at the Iroquois Amphitheatre (http://www.iroquoisamphitheater.com/). The time is yet to be determined but will most likely be around 7 or 8 p.m. If you want to sit with us, I need to know who wants tickets and how much you are willing to pay for a ticket. Tickets or prices are not available yet, but I plan to buy X amount of tickets as close to the front row as soon as possible. I’m guessing tickets will be priced between $20 - $50, I just don’t know yet. So if you want to go and sit with us, contact me A.S.A.P. and let me know how many tickets and how much you are willing to pay!

July 17th Thursday Night (Midnight)
The Dark Knight Midnight Showing. I’m planning a big Batman party during the afternoon, but more on that later. I need to know who would like me to pick up their ticket to see the new Batman movie in IMAX at midnight Thursday July 17th at Stonybrook Theater. So far I have 6 people confirmed.

Friday July 18th
Video Games Live comes to Kentucky Center for the Arts. The Louisville orchestra will perform live music scores from video games with demos, entertainment, and a costume contest before the show. Strange Wilderness

Up until now all the films I've seen this year have been fairly normal type movies, so it was a nice break to see a ridiculously stupid comedy. Basically it's about a guy who inherits his dad's nature show and ruins it to the point of cancellation. So to save the show they decide to search for Big Foot. The film is on par with other stupid comedies like "Grandma's Boy" or "Bench Warmers" and is far superior to badly made, under produced parody movies like "Date Movie" or the travesty that is "Meet the Spartans".

No Country For Old Men

Or is it called "No Ending for Odd Movie"? This one left me in the theater scratching my head and wondering why? Just when you think it's about to make sense, it doesn't. Certain scenes were enjoyable and entertaining but when mixed in with the movie as a whole, it left me disappointed. Did I mention they forgot to add an ending to the film?

Cloverfield

Somewhere between Godzilla and the Blair Witch Project lies Cloverfield. It looks like the camera was duct taped to a frightened cat set loose in a rabid dog show, but you get used to it after awhile. The monster looks cool and kicks the city's butt, Godzilla himself would be proud (and perhaps jealous that his 1998 adventure to New York stunk!)

"We left reality at the door and entered into a world of fantasy that lies somewhere between Hollywood and the pages of your favorite comic book." There was never a time we didn't have something to do, in fact most of the time we had to choose what was more important. After a while you tend to forget that you're sharing the same 10 square feet with 20 other people and you get used to some of the smells (fat, unshaven, creepy nerds with awkward laughs smell the same as the appear ... Terribly!) Anyway, I proudly present to you, the Blog reader, Sarah & Donovan's trip to San Diego Comic Con 2007.

Day 1 Thursday

We started our day at the convention center, as we will every day, in a ridiculously huge swarm of people lined up to enter the building. When the swarm of fan-boys and fan-girls were allowed to enter the building a great divide occurred as everyone began to split up and head off to predetermined locations to wait in more lines for another hour to get into different rooms with different panels and programing inside.

Our first panel of the day was "Biker Mice from Mars" ... Yes, we are among the first people in America to preview the new Biker Mice series and Yes, we didn't really care. Why were we there? Because we got to see Jess Harnell (Voice of Wacko) and Rob Paulsen (Voice of Yacko) see photo on left. (look up Rob on IMDB and you get a phone book of Cartoon voice work). We were also treated to an erotically dirty animated short film titled "Change for a Dollar" and previewed an animated horror film called "Freak Show"

The next panel was for DC comics Countdown. Nothing special happened durring the panel, but afterwards I got to meet the head writer and my hero, Paul Dini. You may know Mr. Dini as a writer for Tiny Toons, Batman: The Animated Series, Superman, Batman Beyond, and the creator of Harley Quinn! He signed my comic and I got my picture with him too.

We soon ventured into the exhibit hall to throw away our money on toys and comics. To understand what the exhibit hall was like imagine a crowed football stadium after the game and everyone is trying to make their way to the parking lot to find their cars. Everyone is bumping into each other and most fans are wearing their favorite jersey. Now replace "Cars" with "comics" and "Jerseys" with "Costumes" and nobody is actually trying to leave. That is the exhibit hall.

While in the exhibit hall I ran into a girl I recognized from the "Gotham Public works" online forum whom likes to cosplay as Harley Quinn. She wasn't in full costume but she had the face paint and pigtails. Fortunately she made excellent company for Sarah and I as we waited in line to meet Jhonen Vasquez, creator of Invader Zim, JTHM, and Squee. Jhonen autographed Sarah's comic and tatoo and he signed my Nintendo DS.

Later in the day I got to meet Mike Nelson the host of Mystery Science Theater 3000. He autographed a poster I bought. Check out the latest project from the crew of MST3K, called RiffTrax. Sarah and I also attended a panel all about Roman Dirge (creator of Lenore). We got to listen to Roman tell amusing stories about his life, Hollywood, comics, tattoos, and a possible Lenore animated movie in the works.

Finally we ended the day at the world premiere of "Superman: Doomsday". This is the first of several PG13 animated DVD films based on DC Comics characters. "Superman: Doomsday" will not be on DVD until September, but it's worth the wait! The fight between Superman and Doomsday is spectacular! Watching Superman get the ever living snot beat out of him is great, especially when starts vomiting blood! Woo-Hoo PG13 ratings! We also were treated to a preview of the next film, "Justice League: New Frontier" where in Lucy Lawless will voice Wonder Woman, how perfect is that?

Day 2 Friday

A new day, a new set of lines to wait in. I started off by attending a panel on Paul Dini's career while Sarah attended the panel on "billy & Mandy" / "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends". After my panel I got to meet Paul Dini's beautiful wife and professional magician/illusionist, Misty Lee. Misty seemed excited to learn I was big fan of her and Paul's podcasts and an active member on the forums at DiniCartoons.com I tried to join Sarah at her panel but the room was full and thus closed. Fortunately my sweet baby scored me an autograph from Richard Horvitz (voice of Invader, Billy) and Keith Ferguson (voice of Bloo).

Around 2pm we left the convention and ventured into downtown San Diego for some fresh air and some lunch. This was a nice break from the overpriced convention food. We made it back just in time to catch the "American Dad" panel which featured the entire voice cast table reading one of next season's episodes. It was great to watch Seth MacFarlane flawlessly switch between Rodger and Stan in the same conversation.

Afterwards we headed to the very large "Hall H" to catch Kevin Smith's panel. We were able to get our seats very early and sat through the "Star Wars 30th Anniversay" program where we got to see Seth MacFarlane again, this time presenting a sneak peak at the season premiere of "Family Guy" which will be an entire parody of Star Wars: A New Hope. (Very Funny by the way!) After Star Wars Director/Actor Kevin Smith, creator of Clerks, Mallrats, Dogma, etc, held his own program where we were treated to a special screening of a new television series which he directed the first episode of called "Reaper". The show is a mix of "Buffy the vampire slayer, Shaun of the Dead, and Dead Like Me". Very cool stuff, Check it out on Tuesday, September 25th on the CW.

To finish off the night we attended the "Worst Cartoons Ever!" which showed a collection of the worst cartoons ever made, found by the folks at cartoon brew.com These cartoons were sooo bad they were hilarious! Afterwards we stayed for "Spike & Mike's: Sick & Twisted Festival of Animation" where we got to see the newest short by the folks who made Dr. Tran, "The Furious Little Cinnamon Bun"!

Day 3 Saturday

Today is the day I put on my Waldo costume and parade around like an idiot while posing for photos and absorbing the attention like an attention sponge. Today was also the most crowded and as a result we couldn't get into the most important panel of them all, "Futurama", Luckily most of it ended up on youtube. As a result of the crowds, we skipped most of the panels and hung out in the exhibit hall where we spent our money and found photo ops.

We got autographs from Zombie horror director George A. Romano and actress Elvira.

We ended up watching the masquerade in one of the overflow rooms. You can see most of it by typing "Comic con 2007 masquerade" in Youtube.

Day 4 Sunday

One last trip through the exhibit hall and then off to the airport.

Wild Hogs

A comedy about mid-life crisis's and motorcycles. This movie is probably a lot funnier than you think, it really surprised me. Things to watch for include poop in a bag, William H. Macy's butt, and duct tapped fighting.

Spider-man 3

Spider-man 2 was great! Spider-man 3 ... not so great. The last superhero film to cram 3 villains in it was Batman & Robin, possibly the worst film in history that doesn't star Halle Barry. Note to Hollywood * Comic book Films should only have 1 villain to every hour and a half of film * For example if "Ghost Rider" was 9 hours long than 6 villains might have worked. . . or not.* All I'm really trying to say is that if you cut out sandman, built up Eddie Brock's character, set up Venom for #4, and revolved the rest of the movie on Goblin Jr. as the villain than I might of liked spdiey3 a lot better. However there are some really cool parts like; The fight between Harry and Peter in street clothes (Dumpsters Hurt!), possible set-up for the lizard, Alfred Rip-off, and some other actiony bits. Things that should of been avoided in this film; Emo spider-man, "Saturday Night Fever Spider-man", Sandman isn't very interesting, venom didn't feel right, and did I mention Emo Spidey? Oh and no Rhino!!! We need the Rhino in 2011 played by Patrick Warburton.

From the guys who made Shaun of the dead, this film was all around fun and silliness with some good action, mystery, and a wicked gun fight! Old ladies with shotguns EQUALS Fun! One word can sum up this entire film and that word is "Yarb!" (Go See it, NOW!)

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

This film starts out as the darkest Disney film ever - an on film mass hanging with small child - said film gets Mad Props for this. However as the film progresses it becomes sillier and sillier until it's way over the top and a little too ridiculous at times. It felt like a live action Bugs Bunny cartoon without Bugs Bunny. Yet there are some cool scenes left amongst the confusing plot(s) that keeps the viewer entertained throughout. Oh and a little bit of GTS too. (Mad props to anyone that gets that.)

Now on DVD, this film had some funny moments but too many Jessica Simpson moments.

Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D

Will return to theaters this year in October now featuring Tim Burton’s animated short “Vincent” which has also undergone the 3-D treatment. It was nice to this masterfully stop-motion animated film return to theaters and I think the 3-D added a nice touch.

Flushed Away

Now on DVD, this film is made by “Aardmin” who is famous for stop-motion charters “Wallace & Gromit” and the film “Chicken Run”. Flushed Away marks the studio’s first attempt at computer animation after “Dreamworks” felt the film would be too expensive to created in stop-motion. This film also marks the last to be made under “Dreamworks” and “Aardmin” will return in the near future with under “Sony” with a new stop-motion film. Flushed Away as a movie was fun and all around enjoyable.

Stranger Than Fiction

Now on DVD, this film stars Will Ferrel and is about a person who’s life becomes narrated by an author only he can hear. Although this plot seems similar to the original Dr. Tran short, it was still a good movie.

Now on DVD, this film was very similar to “Jumanji” or “Zathura”. If you liked either of those movies you should enjoy this one as well. The story seems to be aimed at children for the most part but adults get their entertainment as well.

Ghost Rider

I’m not familiar with the Ghost Rider comics but I do know this film was pretty stinky. While the visual effects were neat, the story wasn’t so great, the lines coming from Ghost Rider’s mouth were stupid, and the villains were ultra lame and represented little conflict. (Note to movie makers: 4 villains that are easily defeated make BAD movie.) I’m surprised Ghost Rider didn’t start dating Halle Berry’s Catwoman.

Pan's Labyrinth

A foreign film that’s stuck between Fantasy and Drama. At times the film is very “Alice in Wonderland” but most the time is very dramatic and depressing. Also the whole thing is subtitled. Slinus hates reading (insert frowny face here). However this is still an excellent movie no matter how sad the ending was. (I felt the need to snuggle some puppies under a rainbow afterwards)

TMNT

The newest ninja turtles film is sequel to the original live action films and a throw back to the original 80’s cartoon. If you liked the first two films this one pretty much as the same feel. I also enjoyed the new makeover and I think the turtles transition into computer animation went well. Although I do have to complain that April, as well as the majority of the female characters have these ridiculously tiny waists that you could fit a rubber band around.

Wow, was this film cool! A lot of violence, beautiful visuals, great writing, and there is even a hunch back!!! There is no logical reason not to see this film. (I recommend seeing it on IMAX)

Grindhouse

A double feature film that starts with “Planet Terror”, a gore filled zombie film, and ends with “Death Proof”, a car chase thriller! There isn’t a single thing wrong with this film. Phony previews to over the top fake movies, disgusting gorey makeup, chicks beating up Kurt Russell, severed limbs, mini motorcycles, THANKSGIVING, Machine gun for a leg… this list of awesome stuff could go on forever.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon: Movie Film For Theaters

Only Borat had a longer title. It’s great to see a film that was made only for it’s fans. ATHF:MFFT feels like a super long episode and attempts to explain the origins of the Aqua Teens. Even though this movie is not for everyone I rather enjoyed it.

Harley's Newest Incarnation

As you all should know by now I've developed an odd obsession with DC comic's Bat-villainess, Harley Quinn. Unlike most of the Batman Rouges Gallery, Harley has only a few different versions of herself whereas a charter like the Joker has dozens.

Here we see the first version of Harley from the 1992 - 1995, Batman: The Animated Series. Harley was created by writter Paul Dini and drawn by Bruce Timm. She is voiced by and partly modeled after TV star Arleen Sorkin.

In 1997 - 1999 Batman: The Animated Series was "revamped" to air along side the Superman Animated Series also created by Dini and Timm. The "revamped" version of the show had a new look and changed several of the characters but is still somewhat part of the same continuity of the original show. This version of Haley will run through the Paul Dini and Bruce Timm's Animated DC universe which include; Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Justice League.

In October 1999, Harley was officially introduced into Batman Comics. The comic book version of Quinn, like the comic book version of The Joker, is more dangerously psychotic and less humorously kooky than the animated series version.

This is the first ever "live action" Harley Quinn. She appeared on the final episode of the WB's "Birds of Prey" titled "The Devil's Eyes" (2003). Unfortunately she never appeared in her jester outfit and she was given a different origin and even the Superpower to hypnotize people with her eyes. In my opinion she is the worst Harley to date.

And Finally, last Saturday February 24th, the newest incarnation of Harley Quinn appeared on the Kids WB's "The Batman". "The Batman", like "Teen Titans", is in no way connected to Bruce Timm and Paul Dini's Animated DC Universe and are more targeted at younger viewers and made for merchandising. However the Harley’s episode, "Two of a Kind", was a freelance script written by Harley's creator Paul Dini. This will be the first animated version of Harley not to be voiced by Arleen Sorkin.
